They may also manage the process, including purchasing, ordering, supervising contractors and overseeing budgets. Interior decorating consultants are trained to see the big picture and to help you balance your vision, functional needs, and budget. Get referrals. Friends, family, and previous clients can be a great source of information. Ask them! Talk with several decorators. Yes I said it, interview several decorators. You’ll want to see how you “click” and get a feel for your new designer’s responsiveness to your needs. Rely on your instincts to determine whether this person is listening, seems to understand your particular requests, and shows enthusiasm about your project. The relationship you have with your decorator should be comfortable and confident. Many close and lasting friendships develop during the experience of working with a designer/decorator.
